Root Beer Bundt Cake

December 2nd 2008 02:01
A&W Root Beer Float delicious

If you've noticed something about my posts on this page, you'll notice that they're nearly all ridiculous. It's true - compared to other recipe writers, I'm a bit of a sham. A fake. A charlatan.

I make up for my lack of cusinary skill by the strength of my googling ability. I find posts through Google, then write them up here, usually suggesting the reader click on the link to find the entire recipe.

Well, here's another recipe: Root Beer Bundt Cake.

I love using unusual ingredients, especially soda pop, ESPECIALLY root beer. Root beer is a bit of an acquired taste - Aussies don't seem to care for it, despite the obvious similarities to Sarsparilla, and I have to buy it for $2.50 a can at an English sweet shop on Glebe Point Road in Sydney. At least it's A&W, though, pictured above, in float format, served in those fantastic A&W mugs.

It sounds so good - a moist, rooty cake, coated with Root Beer icing. It's the thing that gods dream of, it could actually be manna.

For the recipe, click here. It's got two parts: the cake and the frosting, and I can't even look at the recipe without wanting to run out and make it.

Even better, the post suggesting substituting root beer with root beer schnapps - yes, it exists and it's awesome - to give it a bigger root flavour.

Make your own Deep-Fried Coca Cola!

Deep-fried Coke

Coca-Cola is a strange thing... it's the most popular soft drink in the world, perhaps mainly due to the aura of American consumerism that it embodies.

White Cake with Egg Whites

White Cake with Egg Whites

I don't generally have a sweet tooth, which you may or may not have noticed, given the lack of dessert recipes I have shared on here. There are a few desserts that I quite like but can't be bothered making because a) I'm a lazy bugger and b) I like simple recipes and these are anything but simple

Deep-fried watermelon

japanese square watermelons

Shame on you, for limiting the potential of this great and noble fruit. You had thought to relegate it to the end of meals, during summer, with nary a thought about the true potential of watermelon.

Lemon Crunchy Pie

July 21st 2008 06:13
This Lemon Crunchy Pie has been my favourite dessert ever since I was a child. It is a great winter dessert to follow a Sunday Roast. You can eat it hot or cold.

It is very rich and quite filling. It is serves 8 although my husband and I manage to finish one between us within 2 days. It is easy to make and the guests are always impressed by it

Banana and date bread

Banana and date bread
Banana and date bread

Mmmm… Delicious Banana and date bread! The perfect snack for morning or afternoon tea! What I found most amazing about this recipe is that it does not contain any butter or oil! Instead it uses milk as the *mixing agent*, so it is indeed of the healthier variety! I love bread and toast! Especially when it is thickly sliced! I’m not really sure why exactly that is, but I think it might have something to do with *fat toast* being both crunchy and soft at the same time, whilst very thin toast tends to get very dry very easily. Either way, when it comes to banana bread, thick slices are definitely the way to go! This banana and date bread also tastes great (if not better) the next day! Especially when toasted and buttered! My tastebuds are tingling in anticipation!

White chocolate and mixed berry muffins
White chocolate and mixed berry muffins

Are you in need of a bite of chocolatey goodness? A bite of warm, soft berry muffin goodness with bites of white chocolate? If this sounds like you then keep reading, because today is the day of delicious White chocolate and mixed berry muffin goodness! Muffins the quintessential baked good combining the tart taste of berries with sweet chocolate is a divine combination. I love eating muffins when they are baked fresh and still *steaming* a bit! So delicious! “Worth burning the tips of your fingers” delicious! And especially perfect on these cold winter days!

Cherry almond loaf cake

Cherry almond loaf cake
Cherry almond loaf cake

ARGH! I have an exam tomorrow! And despite actually studying fairly well for this one, I seemed to have picked up that last minute bug of “*gasp*! I know nothing! What do I do! What do I do!” Yes the old last-minute-exasperation-impe nding-doom bug is very contagious, springing from absolute thin air! It probably doesn’t help that the weather is currently so wet and glum, I feel like I could bottle it up, and release it on the Sahara dessert to cause flash floods, but there you go.

Chocolate cherry clafoutis

Chocolate cherry clafoutis
Chocolate cherry clafoutis

So in the past I’ve made the original cherry clafoutis, but this time I just felt like a *bit* of a change, so I decided to test out the chocolate version. It is much the same in terms of the texture and cherry goodness, except this time there is that hint of chocolate, which I think really complements the cherries! But what I’ve really come to love most about this dessert is how it is positively one of THE most easy desserts to make and yet, once dusted in icing sugar it looks absolutely divine- as if one has spent hours laboriously at work in the kitchen. The only thing you have to watch out for is that you don’t overcook it (so don’t forget when you put it in the oven). Otherwise, it’s not bad, not bad at all!

Blueberry jam tarts!

Blueberry jam tarts
Blueberry jam tarts

I think I must be in a jam tart phase of my life because I just keep feeling like eating them! Somehow when I eat these tarts they remind me of Alice in Wonderland! I haven’t the foggiest idea why this is the case, but such is the way it is. Maybe it is the whole *tea-party* concept? Which reminds me, T2 now have their own café which is trés chic and trendy, but I seem to be *tangenting* again! Anyway, I just adore the deep colour of blueberry jam! It’s so dark! Almost like its hiding secrets! Seems even exotic! Mmmm… blueberries are delicious too. No wonder I like these blueberry jam tarts.
