Strawberry Bombe Alaska!

Strawberry Bombe Alaska
Strawberry Bombe Alaska
Goodness gracious me! Photos just don’t do this dessert justice! Strawberry Bombe Alaska! It is so deliciously good! Sweet meringue goodness with cold vanilla ice-cream and fresh luscious sweet strawberries that all melts in your mouth and makes you wish that dessert was what you ate morning, noon and night!

I have no idea why, but I have always associated Bombe Alaska with that board game “Cluedo”? You know the one where you all have to guess “Who killed Mr Boddy?” Was it Mrs White, in the kitchen with the candlestick? Haha I think it must have been in one of the mysteries that they were eating Bombe Alaska before he died. Either way, boy oh boy is it good!

It’s actually really surprising, how easy Bombe Alaska is to make! Like looking at it you would probably think, “Way too much work”, but no, it is actually one of the easier desserts to make! So really you’re maximising on “aesthetics of looking difficult” and “taste” with minimal fuss and effort for yourself! So go bake some Alaska today! It’s well worth it!

Strawberry Bombe Alaska

Ingredients: 1 punnet fresh strawberries, 1 tsp icing sugar sifted, 4 scoops of vanilla ice-cream, 3 eggs whites, ¾ cup caster sugar

Steps: Preheat oven to 240 degrees Celsius. Wash the strawberries, cut into thin slices then divide equally among 4 x ½ cup (125mL) capacity ramekins. Sift icing sugar on top of the strawberries. Then top with a scoop of ice-cream. Place the ramekins the freezer while you make the meringue.

Slicing strawberries

To make the meringue: whisk the egg whites in a clean dry bowl for 2-3 minutes or until soft peaks form, using electric beaters. Gradually add the caster sugar until the mixture is thick and glossy. Remove the ramekins from the freezer, place on a baking tray then place spread the meringue evenly over the tops of the ice-cream, making sure it meets the edge of each ramekin.
Baking Bombe Alaska

Bake for 2-3 minutes or until the meringue tops are just golden/firm (but the ice-cream remains frozen underneath). Serve immediately!

hey guys!
Robyn- IT DOES LOOK LIKE A FROSTED CUPCAKE!! haha i never realised!

Pallavi- Good work! Spread the good word ALL over melbourne! lol yeh usually the meringue in other dishes like Pavlova has other ingredients, but that's because it needs to harden more etc, in this recipe.. the meringue is suppose to just set, doesn't need to be rock hard or anything hahaha

Nat- Surprisingly the icecream doesnt melt! I KNOW! you'd think that 3 minutes at 240 degrees Celsius would be causing some sort of melting.. but NO!?! and no deep freezer either! just the regular variety. though i think it is important to place the icecream/strawberries in freezer while you're making the meringue

Coolscorpio- mouth-watering eh? haha maybe the picture isn't that bad after all

Adele- Yes i was seriously surprised at how simple it was! Give it a go and tell me how it all turns out!
