Stir-fried Ostrich with Assorted Capsicum
When I first came across this recipe I was a little 'apprehensive' about trying ostrich meat but now that I have, it is actually very tasty and a lot like lean beef. It is also low in fat, calories and cholesterol yet relatively high in proteins and is regarded as the healthy choice by red meat eaters!
For those that might be feeling the same way as I once did, I urge you to give this recipe a go - it's delish!
Ingredients:
200g Ostrich Meat
2 Red Chillis
2 Green Chillis
2 pieces of Shallot
50g Bamboo shoot
1 tsp Minced Garlic
2 pieces of Dried Chilli
1 each of Green, Red and Yellow capsicum
Marinade:
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Sugar
1/2 Chicken powder
1/2 tsp Red pepper powder
2 tsp Brandy
Seasoning:
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Chilli paste
1/2 tsp Chicken powder
Method:
1) Julienne ostrich meat and marinate for 1 hour.
2) Julienne red and green chillis, shallot and bamboo shoots. Cut the top off the capsicums and remove seeds.
3) Heat 1 tablespoon of oil, add minced garlic and stir-fry ostrich meat until almost well done. Set aside.
4) In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of oil and stir fry all the other ingredients (except the capsicums) at the same time. Finally, add the ostrich meat plus seasoning and stir-fry quickly for a minute or two and dish up.
5) Fill each of the capsicums with ostrich meat and vegetables. Serve hot!
