Seaweed Soup: Why Japanese women don’t get fat.

Seaweed Soup!
Seaweed Soup!
At last! I have discovered the secret to why Japanese women don’t get fat! It’s all in the soup or more importantly the seaweed. Seaweed soup is so simple to make, low in fat and yet so tasty! The seaweed and rice wine combination really is a hit! It’s not as salty as miso soup either. And it is also very warming, so it is perfect to have now during these cold winter times.

Seaweed contains many minerals including sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, chlorine, sulphur, phosphorous, iodine, iron, zinc, copper, selenium, molybdenum, fluoride, manganese, boron, nickel and cobalt. What a list! However it is more commonly known for being a good source of iodine as well as being one of the richest plant sources of calcium. It also contains Vitamin B12, which is not found in most land plants.

However, the most amazing thing about this Seaweed soup is that it has a preparation time of 1 minute. You heard me! ONE minute! (Maybe two if you have to get the egg out of the fridge). You’re probably shaking your head in disbelief thinking, “No! It can’t be!” Well I am telling you now it is true! So the next time you’re rushing madly about the house thinking,“Oh no! I have to leave in 5 minutes but I haven’t eaten anything yet!” You know what you can make! Seaweed soup!

If only everything in life could be so simple!

Seaweed Soup

Ingredients: 2 cups water, 3 sheets of 20 x 20cm dried seaweed, 1 egg, rice wine, sea salt

Steps: Fold the seaweed into quarters then cut using kitchen scissors into strips less than 5mm wide. Bring the water to the boil in a small saucepan. Once boiling, add the seaweed. Turn down the heat to medium, then add the egg and immediately stir it around to mix it in. Add a good dash of rice wine and sea salt to taste. Then serve!

I like seaweed soup and miso soup... but I think Japanese women are thin for a lot of genetic reasons, no?

To say Japanese women are thin is a HUGE generalisation.

Yes I guess it was just *a bit* of a generalisation... and I'm sure there are many other contributing factors.

Meanwhile, LOOKS ARE DECEIVING! Even though it dose resemble something taken from a swamp, It tastes a whole lot better than it looks!

Thanks for the Seaweed Soup recipe. Whether Japanese women are thin or not, I'll use it for its health benefits. Seaweed contains iodine which is good for an underactive thyroid. I might have to leave out the wine due to a liver condition. Love the seaweed flavour in sushi; why not in soup?

The sea weed soup... This stuff is great and it will help to alkalize the body and balance the adrenal glands.

I knew a Japanese woman who weighed about 300 pounds, and was only about 5 feet tall.
