Root Beer Bundt Cake

A&W Root Beer Float delicious

If you've noticed something about my posts on this page, you'll notice that they're nearly all ridiculous. It's true - compared to other recipe writers, I'm a bit of a sham. A fake. A charlatan.

I make up for my lack of cusinary skill by the strength of my googling ability. I find posts through Google, then write them up here, usually suggesting the reader click on the link to find the entire recipe.

Well, here's another recipe: Root Beer Bundt Cake.

I love using unusual ingredients, especially soda pop, ESPECIALLY root beer. Root beer is a bit of an acquired taste - Aussies don't seem to care for it, despite the obvious similarities to Sarsparilla, and I have to buy it for $2.50 a can at an English sweet shop on Glebe Point Road in Sydney. At least it's A&W, though, pictured above, in float format, served in those fantastic A&W mugs.

It sounds so good - a moist, rooty cake, coated with Root Beer icing. It's the thing that gods dream of, it could actually be manna.

For the recipe, click here. It's got two parts: the cake and the frosting, and I can't even look at the recipe without wanting to run out and make it.

Even better, the post suggesting substituting root beer with root beer schnapps - yes, it exists and it's awesome - to give it a bigger root flavour.

don't think I've ever had root beer... but isn't Sarsparilla the drink that tastes like cough syrup?

Rusty - yeah, Sarsparilla is a soft drink that originated from an herbal concoction... that's why, I suppose, we call it root beer. Probably an acquired taste, but one that I've acquired!
