Make your own Whiskeyburger
April 29th 2008 06:03
You stop at this little cafe. They hand you a basket of fries and a glass of Coke. All good, all good. Then, instead of a nice beef burger on a toasted bun, they pass you a tumbler full of some yellowish liquid. With foam on top. And pickles hanging from the glass.
It's a Whiskeyburger, a drink that tastes like a burger, but is an alcoholic drink, found on the heavy pages of Esquire.
"...assembling this whiskeyburger takes about four hours, not including two weeks to infuse the mustard bitters."
Are you kidding me?
The Esquire guys tried it and admitted that it did taste like a hamburger, though anything with a meaty taste, mixed with ketchup and mustard bitters should taste like one, no?
Here's the recipe:
"The Whiskeyburger
Stir well with cracked ice:
3 oz ground-chuck-infused whiskey*
2 tsp tomato syrup*
1/4 tsp mustard bitters*
Strain into small old-fashioned glass or cocktail glass. Top off with lettuce-onion foam* and garnish with a dill-pickle round."

What? Well, you'll have to read the Esquire article to learn how to make chuck-infused whiskey, tomato syrup, mustard bitters, and lettuce-onion foam. Thankfully, it's an American recipe, so there aren't any beetroot ice-cubes.
