Lemon & chilli Baby octopus
Good god! I think that when we were at the Sydney Fish Markets the other day we must have bought Mutant Baby octopus, because if these were the babies I’d hate to think what their mothers would have looked like.. Gigantuan possibly!?
I recommend buying your baby octopus already cleaned and ready to go. Otherwise you will have to face the dreaded ink sac, and goodness knows how long that will take you… you might not even get out alive, or maybe you’ll struggle through and barely survive, with blue-black ink stains all over yourself as your badge of honour.
On a completely different tangent, did you know that octopuses have THREE hearts! … I’m at a loss for words. They must have a lot of love to share is all I can think of. Anyways, for more Octopus facts go here.
Lemon & chilli Baby octopus
Ingredients: 500g baby octopus cleaned, juice of a half a large lemon, 1 tbsp chilli flakes, 1 tbsp raw sugar, 150g mixed baby salad leaves washed
Steps: Combine the lemon juice, chilli flakes and raw sugar and marinate the baby octopus. Cover and leave to stand for 1-2 hours. Then cook under medium-high grill until the octopus shrink a bit. Serve on a bed of mixed salad leaves.
