FYI: Oven Temperatures!
Thought it was time for a down low on Oven Temperatures. As most newcomers to baking have probably figured out, when it comes to baking you’re either on the lucky train, where everything you bake miraculously turns out golden, OR you’re on the one-way ticket to *black-burnt-and-beyond*! Whatever your apparent fate, it does help to know what temperature you’re baking your delights at! After all, everyone wants to start off on the right tracks!
Especially with older-style cookbooks, you may find references to terms like “bake at slow” or “bake in a hot oven”. Now to the ordinary folk that did not sprout from baking-land, terms like a “hot oven” seem not only ludicrous, but just plain imprecise and unhelpful! “Aren’t all ovens hot?!” is probably the most logical response.
So here is a break-down to what recipes actually mean when they say “slow” or “hot”. Hopefully, this helps you get onto the lucky train pronto!
