Rose and Mint Tea

June 20th 2008 10:58
Rose and Mint Tea

I'm not usually a tea drinker but was served a rather nice cup of Rose and Mint tea while over at a friend's place a couple of nights ago which I thought I would share with you all.

The aroma and taste of rose buds with the freshness of mint leaves and zesty lime juice is a wonderful combination to create a very refreshing drink and a brilliant cuppa.

Ingredients:

20 Dried pink Roses buds
20g Fresh Mint Leaves
1/2 Lime
1 tbsp Rose Syrup
2 cups Water

Method:

1) Squeeze the lime juice into a bowl before slicing the lime peel into large pieces. Soak rose buds in hot water briefly.

2) Clean mint leaves. Add water to saucepan and bring to the boil. Add lime peels and mint leaves and cook for 5 minutes.

3) Add roses, cover saucepan and let them sit in hot water for about 10 minutes. Add rose syrup and stir well.

4) Reserve only the tea and mix with lime juice before serving hot.

Make your own Whiskeyburger

Whiskeyburger recipe

You stop at this little cafe. They hand you a basket of fries and a glass of Coke. All good, all good. Then, instead of a nice beef burger on a toasted bun, they pass you a tumbler full of some yellowish liquid. With foam on top. And pickles hanging from the glass.

Infusing Vodka

Lime infused vodka
Instead of buying Grapefruit and Citrus Vodka, Wired Magazine has a great primer on how to make your own infused flavour vodka, turning that staple of the household bar into a base for infinite flavours.

When it comes down to it, you're putting fruit in vodka, and letting it sit. Citrus flavours are the easiest to infuse, but subtle flavours, like cucumber and watermelon, can be added as well. Check out the list

Chenin blanc grapes on the vine
While Pinot Noir is enjoying its time in the sun, thanks in no small part to the movie Sideways, other, lesser wines are struggling to find a foot- or even a handhold on the rocky cliff face of wine admiration.

On Slate, an excellent article about Savennieres, a forgotten white wine that was once treasured by the French royalty

This reminds me, (if you haven’t already) this cold season is perfect for rugging up with nice warm blankets in front of a roaring fire and sipping on tea! My favourite so far this season is definitely the T2 Chai tea! If you haven’t tried it already, then you’re missing out!
