Delicious Oyster Mornay

Oyster Mornay
Oyster Mornay

Argh! So Christmas time is closing in fast and everyone is at the shops in a rush to buy last minute presents, stocking up on groceries to cook their Christmas feasts and basically leaving the shopping centers carrying enough items to stock a bomb shelter!

Is all this hecticness making you just a tad tired? Weary even? Possibly dreading the impending doom of the insurmountable list of dishes which you need to cook (and later clean)? Don’t worry you aren’t the only one, because it sure as hell is freaking me out!

Seafood is a popular favourite at Christmas time. People appear to go to EXTREME lengths to ensure they have the best of the freshest seafood come Christmas, for example lining up at 5 am outside De Costi’s fresh Seafood...5 AM!! I don’t know about you, but that’s just a tad too keen bean for me, so I have to wait out with the masses during *peak hour shopping*.

Anyways, I’ve decided my new favourite seafood is oysters! They require hardly any preparation and are ready like *zap*! The Worcestershire cream sauce really does enhance the flavour of the oysters better than just having cheese plus oyster alone!

The longest part of the whole process was waiting in the queue to buy my seafood! Haha

Oyster Mornay

Ingredients: 1 dozen fresh rock oysters, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 50mL fresh cream, fresh black pepper to taste, ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese, ½ cup shredded tasty cheese, ½ lemon cut into wedges to serve

Steps: Combine the Worcestershire sauce, fresh cream and pepper in a small bowl. Add a tablespoon of the sauce to each oyster. Then sprinkle generously a layer of mozzarella cheese and then a layer of tasty cheese onto each oyster. Place onto a tray lined with aluminium foil under a med-hot grill for approximately ten minutes or until the cheese has melted. Serve with wedges of lemon!
